My Child (The adoption song) (c) Kate Thompson 2008

Didn't think I was cut out for kids
Had a mortgage a dog a car and a wish list
Had a little black book with lots of names
I had goals and I was gonna be famous
But an add on the TV caught my eye
And suddenly I
Was stopped by a haunting scene
Staring at me off the screen

Little hands and little feet
Sad eyes that seemed to speak
Into my soul
They won't let go
Button nose and pixie ears
One single big fat tear
It's rollin down
To the ground
And I smiled at my child.

Found a book on the library shelf
It had pictures and names and a page of show and tell
I flicked through and stared at the faces
With hopeful eyes staring off those brand new pages
They were all dressed up in their Sunday best
And I confess
I sat and cried at the daunting scene
Of orphans staring up at me

Little hands and little feet
Sad eyes that seemed to speak
Into my soul
They won't let go
Button nose and pixie ears
One single big fat tear
It's rollin down
To the ground
And I smiled at my child.

And all I could see through the tears that blinded me
Was a helplessness in a sea of endless need

Little hands and little feet
Sad eyes that seemed to speak
Into my soul
They won't let go
Button nose and pixie ears
One single big fat tear
It's rollin down
To the ground
And I smiled at my child.
