Angel (The foster parents song) (c) Kate Thompson 2008
It was a house painted green
At the end of the street
With a white picket fence and a porch swing
You could hear the children laugh
As they played in the cul-de-sac
Their mom snapped pictures with a Kodak
And they were black and they were white
There was sadness in their eyes
If they fell down and they cried
In a minute she was by their side
She was an angel in the night
It was her arms that held them tight
She prayed to Jesus for a better life
And that they'd get well
She didn't know if they would stay
Who would reaching out today
But for a moment on their way
She was an angel
The phone seemed so loud
In the midnight hour
There was a baby and time was running out
She shivered in the cold
As she turned the porch light on
Then searched for a box of clothes
Marked three months old
As the lights swung up the drive
She could hear the baby cry
As she carried him back inside
She thanked God for saving his life
She was an angel in the night
It was her arms that held them tight
She prayed to Jesus for a better life
And that they'd get well
She didn't know if they would stay
Who would reaching out today
But for a moment on their way
She was an angel
